Concrete Fence (Regis & Russell Haswell) – Industrial Disease

concrete fence

Yet another release to get excited about from purveyors of fine electronic sounds PAN. This time in the form of a collaboration between techno connoisseur Regis and noise merchant Russell Haswell. They’re Concrete Fence and the first track form the bleakly titled ‘New Release (1)’ is just a taste of what’s to come.

I play the track and my immediate thought is that I’m listening to a gust of wind being channeled through a distortion pedal. As the electronic weather subsides we’re faced with a disjointed and contorted beat, pulsating along finding it difficult to keep up with itself. It’s like industrial trance, half feeling like a work in progress, half feeling like an unstable but essentially complete product. Throughout the track, the once prominent beat feels like it’s being sucked into a whirlpool where it’s being slowly broken down into nothing but a hiss, barely reminiscent of it’s original form. Hopefully the rest of the EP continues with this techno deconstruction because I think it’s the way to go.

The full EP is out on 30th August on PAN. Keep your ears peeled.
