Heat Death Records

March 5, 2012

I’ve been listening to a lot of ‘ambient’ music recently. Whether that be straight forward ambient music, dark and more complex drone music or very experimental music. It still kind of fits under the umbrella genre ‘ambient music’.

This has led me to search through the realms of the internet for undiscovered gems of the ambient world. It seems that the majority of the time I will come across a lot of music being released by small labels, generally on a limited run of CDr’s or cassette. One such label I’ve come across is Heat Death Records.

They have an impressive collection of artists releasing music through their label, particularly the new release from Newcastle based ambient band d_rradio.

Having a listen to some of the music they have released I felt strangely compelled to share my discoveries, hence this post. There is something otherworldly about this sort of music, something very unique. It’s the music that you can so easily ignore, but if you take the time to listen to it’s you’ll find that it’s strangely rewarding. That’s why I think it’s so important for people to be putting it out there and actually believing in it. I agree, it’s not exactly to everyone’s taste, but it’s the dedication within that niche that makes it so admirable.
Go and have a listen to all they have to offer on their bandcamp page and then buy it.
